Do you have approval from the Michael Jackson Estate to use Michael Jackson's name?
First, it is important to be clear about what the "Michael Jackson Estate" is. The "Michael Jackson Estate" is a particular collection of assets, owned by Michael and related companies at the time of his untimely death, that comprise the physical and non-physical assets to be passed on in various ways to Michael's beneficiaries (people he named in his valid will). In connection with this, certain people were designated as responsible for managing this estate. These people, by law, are required to maintain and increase the value of the "estate" for the benefit of people like Michael's children, who were named in his will as "beneficiaries" of his estate. Therefore, these managers are, among many things, primarily focused on maintaining the integrity, profitability, and long-term value of the Michael Jackson brand for the beneficiaries of Michael's estate, those persons named by Michael to receive benefits from the assets and properties he accumulated over his lifetime.
On the other hand, Michael's Dream Foundation is a non-profit corporation whose purpose is to raise funds for children's healthcare projects on a global basis--we are not in the business of making a profit, nor are we organized for the purpose of protecting the "Michael Jackson Estate" value. The genesis of the idea came from a small group of people who were moved by the audio recording of his "dream" of children's healthcare that was played to the public during the Conrad Murray trial. As our organization grows and achieves milestones and successes, we hope to honor Michael's visions and dreams regarding access to high-quality healthcare for children globally in a number of ways. In any event, in part because we are not organized for the purpose of benefiting the Michael Jackson Estate, and in part because we are not attempting to make a profit by using the Michael Jackson name, we are in full compliance with all laws, state and federal. We will also be held to the strictest of policies as a federally-recognized charity once our status has been determined, and because we are determined to make this dream a reality we do not intend on doing anything illegal or otherwise that would jeopardize our good standing.
We are very open to working with the estate and other entities in furtherance of our vision, and strongly hope that we have an open line of communication with estate management at some stage in the future. With that being said, at this early stage of our efforts, we are only working to keep the Estate aware of our presence and what we are doing. If you have any questions regarding the legality of Michael's Dream Foundation, please feel free to contact us or our corporate attorney (contact details are located on the Legal page).
Is the Jackson family involved with this project?
Although the Jackson family has no official involvement in Michael's Dream Foundation, they have been contacted multiple times by various members of our team and we have been given the impression "through the grapevine" that they are in favor of what we are trying to do. We will continue pushing forward with this project and hope that someday we will gain their official support.
What is the exact purpose of Michael's Dream Foundation?
Michael's Dream Foundation exists for the purpose of raising the capital and resources needed to improve children's healthcare globally, including the building of at least one new children's hospital.
What can I do to help?
There is much work to be done and the one thing that every person can do to help is simply to spread the word! The farther our reach, the more support we will gain and the better the chances of seeing this hospital built in our lifetime.
Teams have become the structure of the Foundation and implemented for 4 key areas; Administrative, Promotions, Fundraising and Public Relations. If you feel you would be interested in helping us in any of these areas, we encourage you to visit the Volunteer section on our project website and submit a Volunteer Application to join a team.
At this time, we are asking all those involved to concentrate on promoting Michael's Dream Foundation to garner maximum support. In our current position the Pledges of Support, as shown on our project website, are the key to demonstrating the amount of support we have; and will likely affect the amount of support we are to receive from influential individuals, groups and organizations in the future.
