MDF Announces "Destination Georgia"
Michael's Dream Foundation Inc. is preparing to make our next Michael's Dream Box delivery, this time in Georgia!
Following the success of our first delivery to Gary, Indiana in Februrary, we have decided that Michael's Dream Box should start on the next leg of its journey.
We need your donations!
Michael's Dream Boxes contain a selection of toys, games, books and learning materials designed to bring some love and happiness into a sick child's life.
A Dream Box costs $20 to assemble and ship to the children who need them, and we need to ship many more! So please, send your donation today to funds@michaelsdreamfoundation.net
You can even include a little note with your donation, for the children to read!
More details of this next delivery will be issued soon, but for now, please donate whatever you can and help to bring a smile to a sick child's face!

Michael's Dream Foundation Delivers to Gary, Indiana!
On February 14, 2013, representatives from Michael’s Dream Foundation made a trip to Gary, Indiana to deliver some smiles to some very special kids. As many of us know, Gary is among the poorest cities in the country and is severely under-served when it comes to medical services available.
Although the Dream Box delivery was originally planned for a hospital in Gary, our plans were changed at the last minute and our new endpoint became Walker Medical, run by Mr. and Mrs. Dr. Walker and a sweetheart of a nurse named Glynnis. They were very excited that we found them and were gracious hosts as we delivered Michael’s Dream Boxes to the children they had arranged to be there. Because this is a private doctor’s practice, the visit had to be planned carefully as to not disturb any incoming appointments so we made the delivery on Thursday, which is their “office” day when they have no appointments.
Luckily, they were able to invite 3 children to come in and meet us with their parents to receive their special deliveries. It was a whirlwind visit as the doctors were very busy, but the joy we felt in our hearts by seeing the smiles and excitement on the children’s faces made the trip well worth it! They were so happy to see us and even happier to see the bright red boxes full of goodies. Demetrius was so excited he had his hands in the boxes before we even made it all the way through the front door! When we showed them the donated “Ever After” books (thanks to Brenda Jenkyns and Kathy Garren), and pointed out Michael’s picture on the back, they became ecstatic and immediately knew who he was. It was truly a precious visit and one we will never ever forget, and one we hope to make many more times to come! There really is nothing in this world sweeter than knowing that you were able to make a child’s day in the way we were able to this past Valentine’s Day.
We left a total of 20 additional boxes with the fine people at Walker Medical to hand out to their other patients. If you would like to help us put more smiles on more faces, please make a donation today; and thank you to all who helped us make this delivery a success!

What are Michael's Dream Boxes?
Imagine a child, sick with cancer; sick as
a result of chemo treatments, being led by the hand to a hospital playroom. He
walks into the room, and in the middle of the floor is a box, solitary but
inviting. He walks over to it, sits on the floor and eagerly begins to open it.
And as he takes in the sight of the hidden treasures inside, his eyes light up.
A smile of joy spreads across his face as he gasps in sheer excitement at the
wonders before him. And there, as he begins to reach inside the box, the pain,
the exhaustion and nausea of his chemo are forgotten.
What is this magical box, which allows this desperately ill child to forget his illness for a while? It is Michael's Dream Box.
The Michael's Dream Box concept was born out of a meeting between Christine Serene – President of Michael's Dream Foundation Inc. and a children's charity, a few months ago. During this discussion it was acknowledged that while at the moment, we don't yet have the knowledge, the funds, the experience and indeed the contacts within the non-profit industry to build a playroom project of the magnitude we are thinking of, we still wanted to do something to start the ball rolling towards making a difference in the lives of sick and needy children around the world. It was also noted that not all hospitals or facilities need a full playroom, and not all children need to stay in the hospital on a permanent basis. Therefore, a few days later, Christine had the idea of delivering smaller packages or boxes, filled with games and toys that children could carry with them. And with that, the idea of Michael's Dream Box was born!
The Michael's Dream Box is our first step towards helping those children who need it. Each box contains an assortment of toys, games, puzzles and learning tools specifically created for the group of children receiving them. The contents are planned around the children's age range, language, culture and world location.
We aim to deliver Michael's Dream Boxes to medical facilities and orphanages in impoverished areas all over the world. Our first step into this wonderful journey will begin in Gary, Indiana which is listed among the poorest cities in the United States. Children there are lucky if their parents are able to afford healthcare, let alone toys and games. Because this is where the magic of Michael first started; the music, the dance and the giving, we felt it only right to give something back to this community that surrounded the man we all love and adore, during his most precious years. Gary was very close to Michael's heart, in the same way the children were very close to his heart. It seems only appropriate that we got back to Indiana, to begin the journey into making Michael's Dream a reality.
Of course, Gary is only the beginning for us. Over time, we will be delivering Michael's Dream Boxes to children all over the world, following in the footsteps of one of the greatest humanitarians of our time. We plan to accomplish the first leg of our journey by visiting some of the hospitals and other facilities that Michael himself visited during his lifetime, beginning in the United States. Also, you will be able to watch our magical journey as we continue Michael's legacy, which is part of our progression to the realization of the Michael’s Children’s Hospital. Won’t you journey with us? Make sure to sign up for email updates on our project website so you don’t miss any of the story!
At this time we are asking for your gift of support in helping us achieve the first leg of our journey.
